Whether it's anxiety, relationship struggles, poor self image, etc., most of the things we struggle with are actually your brain doing what it was evolutionarily designed to do, predict danger and problem solve.  This is the trauma dynamic in our brain, there is no such thing as a 'mal-adaptive' response.

Unfortunately, even though some of these dynamics were essential to get through difficult times and even necessary for survival, they can continue to activate long after the threat has passed.  This is why trauma focused work is the core of what we will do in sessions.

Through mindfulness, and trauma based modalities such as Internal Family Systems and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, we will work with you to uncover and understand these dynamics, and work towards change.  While trauma can cause mental struggles, it also creates 'superpowers', or skills and aspects of our personality that are the best part of our selves.  We will identify these and use them as part of the vehicle to improve your life.

Humor is an essential component to the healing process and I work towards bringing that into the therapeutic space (as you can likely tell by this website).

You Are Not Broken

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor through the State of Washington.  I hold a Master of Arts degree in Applied Psychology from Antioch University, Seattle and have spent over 10 years in King County's Community Mental Health programs that focus on treating disadvantaged individuals suffering from chronic mental health disorders, substance abuse, and physical and cognitive disabilities.

In addition to mental health work I facilitate the mental health components of a co-occurring group treatment program at Sound Family Center in Monroe.

I currently volunteer at Monroe Correctional Complex providing education on issues of substance abuse, and trauma, and mental health.
